05 Service · Psychology & Therapeutic Supports

Evidence-based therapy, delivered with genuine care.

Our registered psychologists provide assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based therapy - in person or via telehealth - as part of a team that understands your whole plan, not just the hour you spend with them. Already working with other providers? We'll work alongside them.

Evidence-based therapy, funded by your plan

Ellira psychology is delivered by AHPRA-registered psychologists. Under the NDIS, psychology may be funded through Capacity Building, often under Improved Daily Living, when it relates to your disability support needs and plan goals. Sessions can happen in person or by telehealth, depending on what is clinically appropriate, what your plan funds, and what is easiest for you to access.

Evidence-based therapy means your psychologist draws on approaches with a strong professional basis, then explains the work in language that makes sense. It does not mean a one-size-fits-all program or a promised result. Your psychologist will consider your goals, history, preferences, communication style and current supports. Our NDIS mental health services guide can help if you are sorting out where psychology sits beside other funded supports.

Psychology also works best when it respects existing treating relationships. If you already have a GP, psychiatrist, paediatrician, mental-health team or other therapist, Ellira psychology complements that care. It does not replace it or ask you to start again.

What to expect from the first sessions

The first sessions are about understanding what has brought you here and what you want help with. Your psychologist will ask about your current situation, relevant history, strengths, risks, goals and what has or has not worked before. You can ask questions too. Therapy should not feel like a mystery process happening around you.

Once there is a shared picture, your psychologist will explain the suggested approach in plain language: what you might work on, how sessions may be structured, and how progress will be reviewed. Some people need assessment and reports. Others want ongoing therapy focused on coping skills, emotional regulation, relationships, daily functioning or recovery goals. If the fit is not right, switching psychologists is okay. There is no lock-in, and the referral conversation can include preferences that would make therapy feel safer or easier to start.

Connected to your other supports (only with your consent)

Psychology can sometimes make the rest of your support work better, but only when you choose that connection. With your consent, your psychologist can share practical guidance with your recovery coach, support worker or coordinator: things like communication preferences, triggers to be aware of, helpful routines, or the kind of support that reinforces therapy goals between sessions.

You stay in control of information-sharing. You can decide who is involved, what is shared, and when that permission changes. Our privacy page explains how personal and health information is handled. Connected care should make support feel more consistent, not less private.

Common questions

Things people ask us first

Which NDIS budget funds psychology?

Psychology is usually funded through Capacity Building, often under Improved Daily Living or therapeutic supports, when it relates to your disability support needs and goals. We can help you check your plan wording before booking sessions.

Do I need a GP referral?

For NDIS-funded psychology, you usually do not need a GP referral if your plan already funds the support. A GP, psychiatrist or other clinician can still be helpful for shared care or background information if you choose to involve them.

Can I choose telehealth or in-person sessions?

Yes, where it is clinically appropriate and available. You can talk through telehealth, in-person appointments and any access needs during the free intake call.

Will my psychologist speak with my other providers?

Only with your consent. You can choose whether your psychologist connects with your GP, psychiatrist, support coordinator, coach or support workers, and what information is shared.
