Careers at Ellira

Great support starts with great people.

We hire people who care about doing this work properly — and we back them with real supervision, real training and a team that talks to each other. If that sounds like the way you want to work, tell us about yourself below.

Why people stay

Not perks —
practice

Supervision that actually happens

Formal one-on-one supervision every fortnight — two-way, strengths-based, and covering your wellbeing and debriefing, not just your paperwork. This work carries weight; nobody here carries it alone.

Training worth having

A structured induction with a four-week buddy pathway (nobody works solo until they're genuinely ready), plus externally accredited Mental Health First Aid, suicide-intervention training, trauma-informed care and cultural safety — refreshed on a real schedule, not once and forgotten.

A pathway, not a dead end

Support worker → senior support worker → supervisor → coordinator — the pathway is documented and people actually move along it. Annual development planning is part of the deal.

Lived experience valued

Designated peer roles where lived experience is the core qualification, and genuine respect for it in every role. You'll never be asked to disclose more than you choose.

Flexibility as standard

Community and home-based work already fits around life better than most jobs — and flexible arrangements are a stated commitment, not a favour to negotiate.

Fair, transparent pay

SCHADS Award classifications matched to the duties you actually do, 12% superannuation, casual loading and penalty rates where they apply. We'll tell you the classification and rate for any role before you apply for it.

Who we hire

Roles we're building

Mental health support workers — psychosocial recovery support, community access and in-home support. Cert IV Mental Health or Cert III Individual Support (or a plan to get there).

Peer workers — designated lived-experience roles supporting people through recovery as someone who's been there.

Support coordinators & recovery coaches — plan navigation and capacity-building roles for people who love making the NDIS actually work.

Supervisors & team leaders — practice leadership for people ready to grow a team, not just a caseload.

Psychologists & allied health — AHPRA-registered clinicians, employed or contracted, who want their clinical work connected to real everyday support.

Operations & admin — rostering, intake, accounts and the other roles that make good support possible.

Before you start

What every worker needs

Working with NDIS participants comes with non-negotiable checks, and we'd rather you know them upfront: an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (Victoria runs "no clearance, no start" — a pending first application can't do participant-facing work), a Working with Children Check, current first aid and CPR, the free online NDIS Worker Orientation Module, two references, and a police check. Driving roles need a licence, and transporting participants requires a registered, comprehensively insured vehicle.

Missing some of these isn't necessarily a blocker — first aid can be booked, the orientation module takes a couple of hours — but the screening checks are hard requirements, and we'll help you understand the order to tackle them in.

Fair hiring

Everyone means everyone

We warmly encourage applications from people with lived experience of mental ill-health or disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and members of LGBTIQA+ communities. Selection is on merit against the role's criteria — and if you need an adjustment to apply or interview (a different format, extra time, questions in advance, an interpreter or support person), just ask. Asking for an adjustment will never disadvantage your application.

Common questions

Asked by most applicants

Do I need qualifications to apply as a support worker?

A Certificate IV in Mental Health or a Certificate III in Individual Support (or equivalent) is the usual baseline — but genuine willingness to obtain one within your first months, on a documented training plan, can be enough. Tell us where you're at; we hire for fit and build the rest.

I have lived experience of mental ill-health — is that welcome?

Warmly. We employ designated peer roles where lived experience is the qualification that matters most, and lived experience strengthens an application for any role. Your story is welcome here — and you'll never be asked to share more of it than you choose.

What checks do I need before starting?

An NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and a Working with Children Check are non-negotiable — Victoria runs 'no clearance, no start', so a pending first application can't work with participants yet. You'll also need first aid and CPR, the free NDIS Worker Orientation Module, references and a police check. We walk every new starter through the list.

What does the hiring process look like?

Apply → shortlisting by a panel → a structured, scenario-based interview → reference and screening checks → offer with a six-month probation and a proper, staged induction. Unsuccessful interviewees hear back promptly and can ask for feedback — we know how much applications cost people.
